Things that bug me...

I just felt that I needed to write out some things that bug me. So here goes:

Never locking the door. It really bugs me that my roommates never lock the apartment door. It's not like there's absolutely no crime here. Maybe I'm just paranoid because I have lots of computer equipment that would costs thousands to replace if some one decided to rob my apartment.

Subwoofers. This one gets me really worked up. My neighbors, specifically the neighbor that has the room right on the other side of the wall likes to listen to music really loud. And with lots of bass. How can he not realize that he is damaging his hearing? And driving me crazy. I listen to music at sane levels that aren't going to damage my hearing. It makes me want to build an electromagnetic pulse generator and use it when they turn on the music. I can imagine it now.
"What the... Hey my stereo just died. And my alarm clock."
And as he's trying to fathom how all his electronic equipment suddenly doesn't work any more I'll be here in my room snickering about it. Until I realize that I've fried all my stuff too...

People who think that things advertised on infomercials are worth buying. I really shouldn't work taking the calls for infomercials anymore, but I don't want to work at a factory, so I really don't have much choice. I haven't worked all my hours in a pay-period since I've been out of training.

People who just walk in to my apartment with out knocking. Usually the person is looking for one of my roommates who isn't there. I usually come off as a real grouch when people do this, and I probably shouldn't, but I just don't like people just walking in. It's not such a big deal when I know the person, but when it's someone I don't know that well it really irks me.

People. People in general bug me. My goal in life is to be wealthy enough that I don't have to interact with people unless I want to. Of course, first I need to actually save money, instead of spending all of it, or even worse, spending money I don't have with a credit card.

New Hard Drive

I decided today that I would buy a new HDD for my Mythtv box. Now the transcode issues won't be so bad, at least not space wise (for a while). Right now I'm setting up LVM so that the new HDD and the old one look like one disk. So part of the process is to copy the 150 gigs of data from my old HDD to the new one, then I can get to merging the partitions.

Multi-Tasking

Star Trek and blogging, what a combination.

Anyway, I'm having issues with my Myth box. It refuses to transcode the video files to compress them. It wouldn't be such a problem if the disk weren't almost full. Which is funny, because then I bought it I thought that 200 gigs would be plenty for a long time, but at 3 gigs an hour, it's not that much.

These entries end up so fragmented.

To move or not to move? That is the question. Do I want to move to a cheaper apartment or stay where I am? I have no idea. If all goes well, I'll just be putting my rent on a student loan, so it won't matter much where I live. Oh well, I'll just have to deal with it when my FAFSA is processed.

Middle Aged Idiots!

I hate classes geared toward middle aged students. One of the requirements for my degree is a computer literacy class. I've only been using computers my whole life, I think I'm computer literate. The option is available to test out of the class, but I FAILED. The part I failed was about M$ Access. I don't know why it's even required. I've never had the need to create a database for anything. I'm sure most people don't, and the few that do can just RTFM instead of learning about it in a class. Then there's the fact that the class is all about Microcrap Office software. Leave it up to instuitions of higer learning to perpetuate software monoculture.

In other news, I can play StarCraft under Linux now. That's right folks, a Winblows game under Linux.

Back to monoculture... If you grow crops, you don't just grow one thing right? Take cotton for example, if you just grow cotton eventually the soil will become depleted and then unusable. Then along came GW Carver. He figured out that if you alternate between cotton and squash, the soil stays fertile. How does that compare to computers? Well, Winblows and it's software emptys people's wallets, enter Linus Torvalds and Linux. Linux is free, and can do most things just as well, if not better than windows. But in this case, it's okay not to alternate and just use Linux.

Day Off

Three posts, this blogs going pretty strong so far, unlike my pitas blog...

Anyway, it's my day off and I only have one thing to really do, fix the steering on my bike. (oh how I wish I hadn't sold my truck) It likes to freeze up so that it's hard to steer, but I haven't crashed yet. As soon as I find a 15mm allen wrench I'll be able to tear it apart and find out what's wrong with it.

Late

So it's late. And I haven't gone to bed yet. I don't work tomorrow, so it doesn't seem to be a big priority for me to try to sleep. I've always strived to have decent sleeping habits, but the wall aways crashes down on the weekend. Then then on nights that I need to sleep, the lack of a set routine makes it so that I don't sleep at all.

New Blogg...

And maybe I'll post to it one in a while. I decided to ditch my pitas blog in favor of somthing a little easier to use. That's it for now.
